Cu Lao Cham, really beautiful island offshore Hoi An Cu Lao Cham Island, including eight islets, 20 kilometres offshore Hoi An Ancient Town in Quang Nam province. In the 1960s, Cu Lao Cham was known as a beautiful island with various wild animals and legendary landscapes. Cu Lao Cham is located on an area of 15 square kilometres. The biggest islet has a population of 3,000, mostly fishermen. It has wonderful sand beaches, forested hills and the sea. In the future, luxury resorts are expected to mushroom on the islet, but at the moment the landscape remains primitive. The place is ideal for camping, swimming and scuba diving to enjoy the corals and beautiful marine life. There are 10 guesthouses for tourists who don’t want to spend the night in a tent on the beach. Transport from the mainland to the islet is quite comfortable. The five Ukraine-made hydrofoils take 18 minutes from Cua Dai, Hoi An. Two other hydrofoils that can seat 65 passengers take an hour from Da Nang along the Han River. Outdoor activities amid nature, fresh air, and cheap fresh and delicious specialties are the core of a trip to Cu Lao Cham. Cu Lao Cham is also home to salanganes, birds whose nests have long been considered a delicacy by aristocrats and the wealthy. The nests may cost as much as US $4,000 per kilogram.
